How Much Should You Tip Your Bartender?

Tipping culture is similar in Montreal to elsewhere in Canada and the United States. While not required, it is generally expected, and failure to tip is often considered rude and/or poor treatment of hospitality staff. While actual rates/amounts vary depending on specifics – quality of service, type of environment, etc – a good baseline is 15-20% of your total bill.

Master’s Guide Cocktails and Shooters – Mai-Tai

Mai-Tai:

  • 1 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • Ice
  • 1/2 oz orgeat or almond syrup
  • 1/2 oz DeKuyper Triple Sec
  • 1 oz Cruzan Light Rum
  • 1 oz Cruzan Dark Rum
Add ingredients together in a traditional/old-fashioned glass and shake. Add a cherry pick and lime wheel for garnish.

Master’s Guide Cocktails and Shooters – Old Fashioned

Old Fashioned:

  • 1 Slice of lemon
  • 1 Slice of orange
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 drops bitters
  • 1 1/4 oz Canadian Club Blended Canadian Whiskey
  • Club soda
Place the slices in the bottom of an old fashioned glass. Crush the ingredients with a wooden muddler. Pour in the whiskey, then fill with club soda.
